Reggio Emilia
What is Reggio Emilia?
What is Reggio Emilia: Children are involved in short or long-term projects using the approach exemplified by the outstanding schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy. These schools are world-renowned for their approach to early childhood education and their wonderful environments. At the Kingstec Campus Learning Centre the Reggio Approach is used in several ways:
- Children are carefully observed in order to note their developing interests and abilities.
- Staff holds initial conversations with the children in order to discover prior knowledge and also misunderstandings.
- Staff discusses the initial conversation and hypothesize as to how the project might develop.
- Staff and children together explore the topic in depth. This may last days, weeks, or months and may lead to other topics, depending on the children.
- While taking place, the project is documented and displayed around the Centre in various documented forms.
