FAQ

Q: What are the hours of operation?
A: We operate from Mon – Fri 7:45 am – 5:15pm.

Q: Do you offer part-time care?
A: We offer limited part-time care. When your child is offered a part-time space you can accept the days that are offered only. We are not able to provide the selection of days for part-time registration due to current enrollment commitments. We can only offer the part time days that are available at that time.

Q: How does the KCLC waitlist work?
A: KCLC manages over 40 licensed child care spaces for children ages 0 months to 5 years old in the Kingstec NSCC Campus located in Kentville. Our waitlist does not only operate on a “first-come – first serve” bases but also following a list of priorities. These priorities include our current children, siblings, staff children and a NSCC Kingstec Campus Service Agreement.

Q: When can I put my name on the waitlist?
A: You may put your child’s name onto the waitlist when your child is conceived or born. It is your responsibility to ensure we have up to date contact information for your waitlist application at all times.

Q: Is there a waitlist application fee?
A: No, but there is a $100.00 registration fee at the time of enrolment. The registration fee will be applied to your first month of child care fees.

Q: How long do I have to wait to get a child care space?
A: The length of the waiting time is different for each age group and type of care. The longest waitlist times are for children under 3 years old. Waitlist times can vary anywhere from 1 month to 2 years. It is very difficult for us to predict when a space might become available for you. There are many factors which are used to offer spaces (i.e.: the date you came onto the waitlist and the age of your child.) Typically, the majority of spaces become available between May and September of each year as children who are leaving for Grade Primary move out of programs.

Q: What happens if my child becomes too old to go into the classroom I applied for?
A: We automatically transfer the application into the appropriate classroom waitlist.  Your priority on that waitlist is based on your application date.  You do not go to the bottom of the list.

Q: How much notice will I be given when a space becomes available?
A: We attempt to give you a minimum of one months notice.  When we make a space offer, you will have 24 hours to respond. If we do not hear from you within 24 hours, we will move to the next child on the waitlist. It is important for you to inform us of any changes in your contact information.

Q: What happens if I turn down a space when it is offered?
A: Based on the information you provide to us on your Waitlist Application form, we will offer spaces as they become available. If you turn down 3 space offers, which match your request, your child’s name will be moved to the bottom of the waitlist and you will lose your priority status. Your new waitlist date will be the date you decline the third space offer. It is important that you update us on changes to your child care needs. If you do not need a child care space anymore, please remove your name from the list.

Q: What about if I accept a space and then decide I don’t want it?
A: We have a 4 weeks’ notice withdrawal policy that applies to all parents who accept a space. If you accept a space (sign the acceptance letter) and then change your mind, you are responsible for a 4 weeks fee payment unless your notice for withdrawing is more than 4 weeks prior to your child’s start date.

Q: Once my child is in the KCLC program, am I guaranteed a child care space in the next age group?
A: If you are offered a child care space, you will be guaranteed priority for a space in the next age group. Therefore, pending any unforeseen circumstances, you will have a confirmed child care space until your child is school age. However, we cannot guarantee a space in the next available age group at the time that your child ages. We make every attempt to move each child to the next age group but due to the limited number of spaces available, we cannot always guarantee that we have a space at the time that your child ages into the next child care age range. The majority of spaces become available between May and September of each year as children leave for Grade Primary. Children already in our programs always have priority for the next age group.
